A regular papaya, often referred to as Carica papaya, is a tropical fruit known for its sweet flavor and soft, juicy texture. It has an oval or pear shape, typically measuring between 6 to 20 inches in length, depending on the variety. The skin is thin and starts out green, turning to a yellow-orange color as the fruit ripens.

Inside, the flesh of a regular papaya is orange or reddish-orange, soft, and succulent, with a mildly sweet taste that becomes more pronounced as the fruit ripens. At the center of the fruit is a hollow cavity filled with small, round black seeds that have a peppery, slightly bitter taste. These seeds are edible but are often discarded. Papayas are rich in vitamins A, C, and E, and contain papain, an enzyme that aids in digestion.

Regular papayas are commonly eaten raw, used in fruit salads, smoothies, or paired with lime for a refreshing snack. In some cuisines, green (unripe) papaya is used in savory dishes, such as salads or stews.
