Ingredients
- 1 Pound (lb) pork, ground
- 0.5 Pound (lb) veal, ground
- 6 Slices bacon, divided
- 0.5 Cups onion, minced
- 0.5 Cups celery, minced
- 1 Clove garlic, minced
- 2 Teaspoons (tsp) sage, dried
- 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) salt
- 0.25 Teaspoons (tsp) black pepper, ground
- 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) cornstarch
- 2 9 Inch pie crusts, packaged
- 1.25 Cups water
Steps
- In a Dutch oven, brown the ground veal, pork, and bacon. Drain off the fat.
- Stir in the onion, celery, garlic, sage, salt, and pepper. Add 1 cup of water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onion is tender.
- Combine the cornstarch with the remaining 0.25 cup of water. Add this mixture to the hot meat and vegetable mixture, cooking and stirring until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for an additional 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Fill the bottom pie crust with the meat and vegetable mixture. Roll out the top crust, place it over the filling, seal the edges, and cut patterned slits in the top crust.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let the pie stand for about 15 minutes before serving.
