Ingredients

  • 1 Whole egg
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) white sugar
  • 0.5 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1.25 Cups vegetable oil, for deep-frying
  • 1 Small onion, sliced
  • 2 14.5 Ounces (oz) cans French cut green beans, drained
  • 1 10.75 Ounces (oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 0.25 Cups milk
  • 0.5 Cups sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 Pinch paprika, seasoned
  • 1 Pinch ground black pepper, to taste

Steps

  1. Whisk the egg in a small bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and a pinch of ground black pepper. Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy skillet or deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Dip each onion slice into the egg and then coat with flour. Fry in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3 minutes, then set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain and cool. Chop into 1/2 inch pieces.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the drained green beans, undiluted cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Stir in about half of the fried onions. Transfer the mixture to a casserole dish.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until heated through and bubbly, about 25 minutes. Remove from the oven, sprinkle Cheddar cheese and the remaining onions on top, then return to oven and bake until browned, about 10 more minutes. Remove from oven and garnish with a pinch of paprika and ground black pepper.

Enjoy this comforting and flavorful casserole with your loved ones!
