Ingredients

  • 1 14.1 Ounces (oz) package pastry for a 9-inch double-crust pie, packaged
  • 0.75 Cups white sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) cinnamon, ground
  • 6 Cups apples, sliced
  • 1 Tablespoon (tbsp) butter

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. Line a 9-inch pie dish with one pastry crust; set the second one aside.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 0.75 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Adjust sugar to taste if apples are tart.
  4. Layer the apple slices in the prepared pie dish, sprinkling each layer with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  5. Dot the top layer with small pieces of butter. Cover with the top crust.
  6. Bake the pie on the lowest rack of the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking until the pie is golden brown and the filling bubbles, about 30 to 35 minutes more.
  7. Serve warm or cold, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
