  • 0.75 Cups shortening
  • 1 Cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 Whole egg
  • 0.25 Cup molasses
  • 2.25 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.25 Teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 Teaspoon cloves, ground
  • 1 Teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 1 Teaspoon ginger, ground
  • 0.33 Cup granulated sugar

Steps

  1. Cream the shortening and brown sugar together in a large bowl. Stir in the egg and molasses, mixing well until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. Gradually add the flour mixture to the shortening mixture, mixing until well combined. Cover the dough and chill for at least 2 to 3 hours.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease cookie sheets.
  4. Roll the chilled dough into balls the size of large walnuts. Roll each ball in granulated sugar and place them 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for one minute before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
