Ingredients

  • 4 Pounds (lb) boneless chuck roast
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Whole onion, minced
  • 12 Ounces (oz) chili sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons (tbsp) distilled white vinegar
  • 3 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons (tbsp) Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) mustard powder
  • 1 Teaspoon (tsp) salt
  • 0.5 Teaspoon (tsp) black pepper, ground
  • 0.125 Teaspoon (tsp) cayenne pepper, ground

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
  2. Place the boneless chuck roast in a large covered pan. Roast in the preheated oven until the meat falls apart and shreds easily, about 2 hours.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced onion and cook until translucent.
  4. Stir in the chili sauce and vinegar with the onion. Fill the empty chili sauce bottle with water, shake, and pour the liquid into the skillet.
  5. Add the minced garlic, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper to the skillet. Cook over low heat, stirring often, until the sauce thickens.
  6. Shred the beef using two forks and stir it into the sauce. Simmer for an additional 30 minutes.
  7. Serve the barbecue beef on buttered and broiled hamburger buns for a delicious sandwich experience.
