  1. 1

In a bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water. Let it sit until the yeast softens and forms a creamy foam, about 10 minutes.

  2. 2

Stir the remaining 1/2 cup warm water, the warm milk, 6 tablespoons sugar, and the salt into the yeast mixture. Gradually whisk in 2 cups flour until smooth. Add the remaining 3 1/2 cups flour, 2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons vegetable oil, and the egg to the flour-yeast mixture; stir until the dough is soft.

  3. 3

Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6 to 8 minutes. Place the dough in a large, greased bowl and turn it to coat. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

  4. 4

Punch down the dough; divide it in half. Roll each half on a floured surface until 1/3- to 1/2-inch thick. Cut out rounds with a floured 2 1/2-inch cutter; brush each dough circle with melted butter.

  5. 5

Using the dull edge of a table knife, make an off-center crease in each dough circle. Fold along the crease so the larger half rests on top; press along the folded edge.

  6. 6

    Grease a baking sheet.

  7. 7

Arrange the folded dough circles 2 to 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.

  8. 8

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Remove the towel or plastic wrap from the dough.

  9. 9

Bake in the preheated oven until the rolls are golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer the rolls to a wire rack to cool.

How easyChef Pro scores recipes and products

easyChef Pro analyzes up to 41 nutrients using data sourced from USDA and other verified food databases. Its scoring method uses the nutrients relevant to nutrition quality, calorie density, processing level, and your selected health goal. Recipes and food products get a health score from 0 to 100, calculated using consistent rules instead of being estimated by AI. The same nutrition data, serving size and health goal will produce the same result.

The calculation evaluates nutrients, calorie density, processing level, and how well the food supports your selected health goal. Protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients can strengthen the score. High amounts of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar and other nutrients may lower it.

Your health goal also matters. easyChef Pro evaluates recipes and products across six health areas and adjusts their importance for your selected goal. This means the same food may be a better fit for one health goal than another.

For recipes, changing an ingredient, quantity or serving size changes the nutrition and may change the score. Remix the recipe in easyChef Pro to calculate fresh nutrition and scores for the version you actually make. Product scores are based on the nutrition and serving information associated with that specific product.
