Potato Dumplings

Potato Dumplings feature tender mashed potatoes bound with self-rising flour and egg, formed into plump balls with a seasoned crouton hidden inside for a pleasantly crunchy, savory surprise. Simmered gently in soup or broth, they turn pillowy and comforting with a hint of spice from the crouton. Ideal for cozy dinners, especially alongside hearty stews or brothy soups.

Potato Dumplings
  1. 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, combine 2 cups mashed potatoes with the flour and the egg. Using about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the mixture for each, shape into dumplings. Press a crouton into the center of each and seal the dough around it.

  3. 3

Drop the dumplings into simmering soup or broth, cover, and cook for 20 minutes. Do not lift the lid while the dumplings are cooking.
