In a large bowl, combine the warm water and 1 tablespoon sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 10 minutes, until the yeast becomes foamy.
- 2
Stir the milk, eggs, and salt into the yeast mixture. In a separate bowl, measure the flour, add 2/3 cup sugar, and rub the shortening into the flour with your fingers until it is barely noticeable.
- 3
Gradually stir the flour mixture into the wet ingredients. Mix with a wooden spoon until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and begins to form a ball around the spoon.
- 4
Cover with a hot, wrung-out wet towel and place in a warm spot to rise until doubled in bulk; this should take about 45 minutes.
- 5
When the dough has risen, pour the melted butter over it and knead for about 2 minutes.
- 6
Let the dough rest for a few minutes, then roll it out on a lightly floured surface to 1 inch thick.
- 7
Cut the dough into 2 inch squares with a knife. Roll the squares into balls and place them in greased round pans, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- 8
Let rise again until doubled in size. You may also refrigerate the dough and let it rise overnight for baking the next day.
- 9
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
- 10
Bake the rolls for about 12 minutes, until golden brown.

How easyChef Pro scores recipes and products
easyChef Pro analyzes up to 41 nutrients using data sourced from USDA and other verified food databases. Its scoring method uses the nutrients relevant to nutrition quality, calorie density, processing level, and your selected health goal. Recipes and food products get a health score from 0 to 100, calculated using consistent rules instead of being estimated by AI. The same nutrition data, serving size and health goal will produce the same result.
The calculation evaluates nutrients, calorie density, processing level, and how well the food supports your selected health goal. Protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients can strengthen the score. High amounts of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar and other nutrients may lower it.
Your health goal also matters. easyChef Pro evaluates recipes and products across six health areas and adjusts their importance for your selected goal. This means the same food may be a better fit for one health goal than another.
For recipes, changing an ingredient, quantity or serving size changes the nutrition and may change the score. Remix the recipe in easyChef Pro to calculate fresh nutrition and scores for the version you actually make. Product scores are based on the nutrition and serving information associated with that specific product.
