Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Stir in 4 teaspoons salt. Remove any loose, outer cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for 1 minute. Lift them out and set aside.
- 2
Remove the core from the cabbage and gently place the head into the boiling water. Cook for 5 minutes, taking off the outer leaves one by one as they loosen each minute. Set aside 12 large leaves and save the inner part of the cabbage for another use.
- 3
Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Reserve 2 tablespoons minced onion for the cabbage rolls; add the remaining onion to the hot oil. Cook, stirring often, until translucent, about 2 minutes. Stir in the tomato sauce, undrained diced tomatoes, water, vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon salt; bring to a simmer. Lower the heat to low and cook for 10 minutes.
- 4
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- 5
Prepare the cabbage rolls: In a bowl, mix the sirloin, rice, garlic, reserved minced onion, the remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, the remaining pepper, and the allspice until well combined.
- 6
Lay a softened cabbage leaf on a cutting board and trim off the tough lower portion of the stem. Place about 3 tablespoons of the meat filling in the center. Fold the sides inward and roll it up tightly, like a burrito or spring roll. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
- 7
Pour 1 cup of the tomato sauce mixture into the bottom of a 9x13-inch or 11x7-inch baking dish. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish and pour the remaining sauce over the top. Cover tightly with foil.
- 8
Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Lightly squeeze a lemon wedge over each serving and garnish with parsley.

How easyChef Pro scores recipes and products
easyChef Pro analyzes up to 41 nutrients using data sourced from USDA and other verified food databases. Its scoring method uses the nutrients relevant to nutrition quality, calorie density, processing level, and your selected health goal. Recipes and food products get a health score from 0 to 100, calculated using consistent rules instead of being estimated by AI. The same nutrition data, serving size and health goal will produce the same result.
The calculation evaluates nutrients, calorie density, processing level, and how well the food supports your selected health goal. Protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients can strengthen the score. High amounts of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar and other nutrients may lower it.
Your health goal also matters. easyChef Pro evaluates recipes and products across six health areas and adjusts their importance for your selected goal. This means the same food may be a better fit for one health goal than another.
For recipes, changing an ingredient, quantity or serving size changes the nutrition and may change the score. Remix the recipe in easyChef Pro to calculate fresh nutrition and scores for the version you actually make. Product scores are based on the nutrition and serving information associated with that specific product.
