Simple Steamed Chicken Breasts

Simple Steamed Chicken Breasts feature tender, salt-brined chicken gently cooked to keep it moist and delicate. A warm drizzle of garlic, onion, soy, and sesame oil adds aromatic depth and a lightly nutty finish. Serve it as a light dinner with rice and greens or as a clean, protein-forward lunch.

  1. 1

Put the chicken and salt in a bowl. Rub the salt evenly over the chicken. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Set a steamer basket in a saucepan and add water until it sits just below the bottom of the basket. Rinse the chicken and place it in the basket. Bring the water to a boil; cover and steam the chicken until the juices run clear, about 30 minutes.

  3. 3

Warm the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until tender, 3 to 4 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the soy sauce and sesame oil, then take it off the heat.

  4. 4

Spoon the sauce over the chicken and garnish with cilantro to serve.
