Cover the corned beef with cold water and soak it in the refrigerator for 8 hours to overnight.
- 2
Drain the beef, put it in a large Dutch oven, and cover it with fresh water. Place the peas in a triple layer of cheesecloth and tie it securely. Put the bag into the Dutch oven with the beef. Bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer and cook for 2 hours.
- 3
Add the cabbage, turnip, and carrots to the pot. Simmer for 25 minutes.
- 4
Add the potatoes and simmer until all the vegetables are fork tender, 20 to 25 minutes.
- 5
While the vegetables cook, make the dumpling dough: Mix the flour, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl, then add just enough water to form a pasty dough. Divide the dough into 6 balls, taking care not to overwork it.
- 6
During the last 5 to 10 minutes of simmering the vegetables, set the dumplings on top of the vegetables and cover with a lid. Let the dumplings steam in the pot for 7 minutes.
- 7
When the dumplings are cooked through, remove everything from the pot and arrange it on a warm serving platter. Take the cooked peas out of the cheesecloth bag and mash them with butter and pepper. Serve alongside the beef and vegetables.

How easyChef Pro scores recipes and products
easyChef Pro analyzes up to 41 nutrients using data sourced from USDA and other verified food databases. Its scoring method uses the nutrients relevant to nutrition quality, calorie density, processing level, and your selected health goal. Recipes and food products get a health score from 0 to 100, calculated using consistent rules instead of being estimated by AI. The same nutrition data, serving size and health goal will produce the same result.
The calculation evaluates nutrients, calorie density, processing level, and how well the food supports your selected health goal. Protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other beneficial nutrients can strengthen the score. High amounts of sodium, saturated fat, added sugar and other nutrients may lower it.
Your health goal also matters. easyChef Pro evaluates recipes and products across six health areas and adjusts their importance for your selected goal. This means the same food may be a better fit for one health goal than another.
For recipes, changing an ingredient, quantity or serving size changes the nutrition and may change the score. Remix the recipe in easyChef Pro to calculate fresh nutrition and scores for the version you actually make. Product scores are based on the nutrition and serving information associated with that specific product.
