Light and Baked Mozzarella Sticks
  1. 1

Preheat a toaster oven on the broil setting; or position an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Grease a small baking sheet with cooking spray; set aside.

  2. 2

Beat the egg in a small bowl. Put the bread crumbs in a separate small bowl.

  3. 3

Insert a toothpick vertically into each cheese stick half to the halfway point. Dip each cheese stick in the egg, then press into the bread crumbs to coat. Repeat dipping in the egg and bread crumbs for a double-thick coating. Place the cheese sticks on the prepared baking sheet and spray with additional cooking spray for even browning.

  4. 4

Broil in the preheated oven until golden brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Let the cheese sticks set before serving, about 1 minute.
