Homemade Focaccia Bread

    Combine 1 cup flour, sugar, salt, and yeast, and mix well.

    Heat water and vegetable oil until warm, then add them to the yeast mixture along with the egg.

    Blend with an electric mixer on low speed until moistened.

    Beat for 2 additional minutes.

    While beating, stir in 1 3/4 cup flour until the dough pulls away from the side of the bowl.

    Knead in 3/4 cup flour on a floured surface.

    Cover the dough with a bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes.

    Place the dough on a greased baking sheet.

    Roll it out into a 12 inch circle.

    Cover with greased plastic wrap and a cloth towel, and place in a warm spot for 30 minutes.

    Uncover the dough and poke holes in it with the handle of a spoon at 1 inch intervals.
