Pomegranate-Studded Cranberry Sauce
  1. 1

In a heavy pot, combine the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, water, corn syrup, port wine, lime juice, cinnamon sticks, 1 1/2 teaspoons orange zest, cloves, and 1/4 of the pomegranate seeds; bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries pop and the sauce thickens, about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Taste the sauce and add more sugar, corn syrup, or port wine if you like. If the flavor is too strong, remove the cloves or cinnamon now and add more port wine or lime juice.

  3. 3

Continue simmering the sauce, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your preferred thickness, 15 to 30 minutes.

  4. 4

Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool, about 30 minutes. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

  5. 5

Remove any remaining cinnamon sticks and cloves. Stir in the remaining pomegranate seeds and garnish with the remaining 1 1/2 teaspoons orange zest.
