- 1
Pour water into a bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over it and let it sit until it softens and forms a creamy foam, about 10 minutes. Add the vegetable oil, sugar, and self-rising flour. Stir with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
- 2
Turn the dough out onto your counter and knead until smooth, about 10 minutes. Move the dough ball to a lightly oiled bowl. Flip it to lightly coat. Cover and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 2 hours.
- 3
In a separate bowl, combine the pork, green onions, cayenne pepper, sesame oil, and hoisin sauce. Mix well and refrigerate.
- 4
Pour a couple inches of water into a Dutch oven and set a bamboo steamer on top.
- 5
Press the dough down to deflate it and move it to a lightly floured surface. Cut the dough in half and roll each half into a long rope. Divide each rope into 6 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten into a disk. Roll each disk to about 1/8 inch thick and 4 to 5 inches wide, thinning the edges slightly more than the center.
- 6
Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle. Pinch the edges together to create multiple small pleats, moistening the edges with water if needed. Squeeze the pleats together at the top to seal in the filling. Set the pork buns on individual squares of parchment paper. Place them in the cold steamer, cover, and let them proof until noticeably puffed, 30 to 45 minutes.
- 7
Bring the water in the Dutch oven to a boil over high heat. Set a timer for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the buns covered for 15 minutes. Uncover and transfer to a plate.

How easyChef Pro Scores This Recipe
easyChef Pro gives every recipe a health score from 0 to 100, built from more than 30 nutritional parameters including nutrient density, energy density and glycemic impact. It calculates rather than estimates, so the same recipe returns the same score every time.
The number is traceable. You can see exactly which nutrient moved it, so a dish scoring 78 might show fiber pushing it up while sodium pulls it down, alongside the NOVA processing level of each ingredient.
Your health goal changes the calculation itself, not just a filter. easyChef Pro applies clinically derived weighting across six health dimensions, which is why the same dish can score well for one goal and poorly for another.
Swap an ingredient or change the serving size and that math changes with it. Scoring your own version is the only way to see what your kitchen actually produces.
