Beefs Portuguese Style

Beefs Portuguese Style features tenderloin steaks soaked in a garlicky red wine marinade, then quickly seared and finished with the reduced marinade for a bold, peppery pan sauce. The chile paste and white pepper add gentle heat that balances the wine’s depth and the rich beef. Serve this for a weeknight dinner or a casual supper when you want big flavor with minimal fuss.

  1. 1

In a medium bowl, mix the red wine, water, garlic, chile paste, white pepper, and salt. Add the beef and turn it to coat evenly.

  2. 2

In a large heavy skillet over medium heat, fry 3 steaks for 2 minutes per side; set the steaks aside, and pour the liquids into the red wine mixture. Repeat with the remaining beef.

  3. 3

Pour the oil into the skillet and reduce the heat to medium-low. Fry the steaks a second time for 2 minutes on each side. Drain the oil, then return all the steaks and the marinade to the pan and let it boil for 2 minutes.
