Brown Sugar–Soy Broiled Salmon

Brown Sugar–Soy Broiled Salmon balances caramelized sweetness with a gentle salty umami from soy, while broiling keeps the fish tender and flaky. The roasted red onions add a mellow bite and a touch of smokiness that complements the glaze. Serve this for a quick weeknight dinner or a simple, polished meal when you want bold flavor with minimal fuss.

Brown Sugar–Soy Broiled Salmon
  1. 1

Position an oven rack about 6 inches below the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.

  2. 2

Stir together brown sugar and soy sauce in a small bowl.

  3. 3

Warm oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Sauté onion, salt, and pepper in the hot oil until softened, 5 to 7 minutes. Add to the sugar mixture and stir to combine. Arrange salmon fillets on a rimmed baking sheet.

  4. 4

Broil the salmon in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Flip the salmon and drizzle with 1/2 of the sugar mixture. Continue broiling until the salmon is opaque throughout and flakes easily with a fork, 5 to 10 minutes more. Serve with the remaining sugar mixture.
