    Set the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch casserole dish with butter.

    Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni in the boiling water, stirring now and then, until slightly firm, about 8 minutes. Drain.

    In a casserole dish, combine the macaroni, salmon, cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 can of milk, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Stir until evenly mixed. Scatter French-fried onions over the top.
