    Spread ham in the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Butter one side of each bread slice; cut the slices into cubes. Arrange the buttered bread cubes over the ham; layer American cheese on top of the bread cubes.

    Whisk the milk, eggs, mustard powder, and salt together in a bowl; pour the mixture over the American cheese layer. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
