Great-Grandma’s Glazed Candied Yams
Great-Grandma’s Glazed Candied Yams are rich and buttery with a caramelized sheen, blending warm cinnamon and nutmeg with bright notes of orange. The yams turn tender and almost custard-like as they bake, then get crowned with toasty marshmallows for a nostalgic finish. Perfect for holiday dinners or any cozy gathering where a classic, crowd-pleasing side shines.

- 1
Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. Add the yams and boil for 10 minutes. Drain and rinse them twice with cold water. Soak them in cold water for 15 minutes.
- 2
While the yams are soaking, preheat the oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).
- 3
In a small bowl, combine the white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- 4
Peel the yams, cut them into chunks, and place them in a large baking dish. Dot with butter and sprinkle with the sugar mixture so all the yams are coated. Carefully pour enough orange juice into the bottom of the baking dish to reach 1/2 inch.
- 5
Bake in the preheated oven, basting often, until the yams are tender and the liquid is thick and sticky, 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Sprinkle with mini marshmallows. Turn on the oven's broiler. Broil until the marshmallows are melted and toasty, about 5 minutes.
