Hearty Tuna Casserole

Hearty Tuna Casserole bakes tender egg noodles with flaky tuna, celery, and green onions in a tangy mayo–sour cream sauce accented by mustard and thyme. Thin layers of zucchini soften in the oven under a blanket of Monterey Jack that turns bubbly and golden, finished with fresh tomato for brightness. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a potluck favorite.

Hearty Tuna Casserole
  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Coat a 2-quart casserole dish with cooking spray.

  2. 2

Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring it to a rolling boil. Cook egg noodles until tender yet firm to the bite, 7 to 9 minutes. Drain and move them to a large mixing bowl.

  3. 3

Add tuna, celery, and green onions to the noodles. Stir in mayonnaise, sour cream, mustard, thyme, and salt until everything is well combined.

  4. 4

Spoon 1/2 of the noodle mixture into the prepared casserole dish, then layer 1/2 of the zucchini slices on top. Repeat the layers once more, then sprinkle Monterey Jack cheese over the entire casserole.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven until hot and bubbly, about 30 minutes.

  6. 6

Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped tomato before serving.
