Air Fryer Fish and Chips

Air Fryer Fish and Chips pairs beer-battered cod with seasoned potato wedges for a pub-style favorite made lighter. The fish cooks up with a shattering crust and moist, flaky interior, while the chips turn tender inside with crisp edges. Perfect for a casual dinner when you want classic comfort with less oil.

  1. 1

Make chips: Peel the potato and cut it into 12 wedges. Pour 3 cups of water into a medium bowl and submerge the potato wedges for 15 minutes. Drain the water and replace it with fresh water. Soak the wedges for another 15 minutes.

  2. 2

Meanwhile, prepare the fish: In a large bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, salt, garlic powder, baking soda, and baking powder. Pour in 1/2 cup malt beer and stir to combine. If the batter is too thick, add the remaining beer 1 tablespoon at a time.

  3. 3

Place the cod fillets on a rimmed baking sheet lined with a drip rack. Spoon half of the batter over the fillets. Put the rack in the freezer to let the batter firm up, about 35 minutes. Flip the fillets and coat the other side with the remaining batter. Return to the freezer for 35 more minutes.

  4. 4

Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 8 minutes.

  5. 5

Cook the frozen fish fillets in the preheated air fryer for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Meanwhile, drain the water from the potato wedges and blot them dry with a paper towel. Place them in a medium bowl and add the oil, salt, and pepper; toss until evenly coated.
