Auntie Doris's Homemade Peach Jam
Auntie Doris's Homemade Peach Jam balances lush peach sweetness with a sunny citrus lift from whole oranges, creating a bright, fruity spread with a gentle marmalade note. It’s thick, glossy, and vibrant—ideal for warm toast at breakfast, spooned over oatmeal, or swirled into yogurt and ice cream for a burst of summer flavor.

- 1
Put the peaches in a large bowl. Scrub the oranges, then chop them into pieces, including the peel; using a food processor makes this easier and helps keep more juice. Transfer the oranges to the bowl with the peaches. Stir in the sugar, cover, and refrigerate overnight.
- 2
The next day, pour everything from the bowl into a large pot. Bring to a simmer over low heat and cook for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Keep the heat low enough to prevent the jam from burning and sticking to the bottom of the pot; it does not need to reach a rolling boil.
- 4
While the jam simmers, sterilize your jars in boiling water for at least 5 minutes and keep them hot.
- 5
Prepare new lids as directed by the manufacturer.
- 6
Ladle the jam into the jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims with a clean, damp cloth or paper towel, then seal with lids and rings. Process according to the guidelines recommended by your local extension.
