  1. 1

Put the apples in a large pot, add enough water to cover, and bring to a boil. Lower the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until soft. Drain and let cool. Transfer to a large bowl and toss with 2 tablespoons sugar to coat evenly.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, beat together the 1/2 cup butter and 2 tablespoons sugar until fluffy. Stir in the egg. In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups flour, baking powder, and custard powder. Add the dry ingredients to the bowl with the butter and sugar. Press the crust into the bottom and up the sides of a 9 inch springform pan.

  3. 3

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

  4. 4

Drain the apples and place them into the crust. Cut together 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup butter, 1 1/4 cups flour, and cinnamon. Stir in the coconut and oats. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.

  5. 5

Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Remove the sides from the pan and let the crumble cool before serving.
