Bistro-Style Onion Havarti Burgers

Bistro-Style Onion Havarti Burgers layer juicy, soup-mix–seasoned beef with buttery caramelized onions and tender mushrooms for deep, sweet-savory flavor. Creamy Havarti melts over the patties, and a swipe of mayonnaise adds richness, making these ideal for a relaxed weeknight dinner or a casual weekend cookout.

  1. 1

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Set the hamburger bun halves, cut-sides down, in the hot skillet and toast until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer the toasted buns to a plate.

  2. 2

Preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat. Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat on the grill. Add the mushrooms and onions; season with salt and black pepper, then cook and stir until the mushrooms are lightly browned, about 20 minutes.

  3. 3

Meanwhile, combine the ground beef and onion soup mix in a bowl with your hands. Shape the mixture into 6 hamburger patties.

  4. 4

Lightly oil the grill grates. Grill the burgers for about 5 minutes, then flip and continue grilling to your preferred doneness. A meat thermometer inserted into the center of the patties should register 180 degrees F (82 degrees C).

  5. 5

Take the burgers off the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes. Spread each bun with 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, place the burgers on the buns, and divide the mushrooms and onions over the burgers to serve.
