Budget Beer-Battered Trout

Budget Beer-Battered Trout delivers crisp, golden fillets with a light, airy crust and a gentle malty note from the beer. 1. 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. 2

Pour beer into the pancake mix container instead of the water it calls for.

  3. 3

Make the batter as thick or thin as you like.

  4. 4

Close the lid, shake it a few times, and the batter is ready.

  5. 5

Use tongs to dip the fish into the batter, or pour the batter into a bowl first if you prefer to dirty a dish.

  6. 6

If you cut the fish into smaller pieces, you can put them in the container, close the lid, shake it a couple of times, then carefully take out the coated pieces.

  7. 7

Lift the fish from the batter with tongs and place it in the hot oil.

  8. 8

Fry the fish until golden brown on both sides, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
