- 1
In a deep cast iron skillet over medium heat, melt the butter with the oil. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and the ground beef; cook and stir, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until the beef is crumbly and browned, about 7 minutes.
- 3
Stir in the tomato sauce and the evaporated milk. Add the pickle relish, Dijon mustard, granulated garlic, granulated onion, Montreal steak seasoning, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper, and stir to combine.
- 4
Reserve 1/4 cup beef broth, and pour the remaining beef broth into the skillet. In a small bowl, whisk the flour with the reserved 1/4 cup beef broth to make a slurry; stir the slurry into the skillet.
- 5
Stir in the dry macaroni until the pasta is fully submerged. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer, covered, until the macaroni is tender with a slight bite, about 10 minutes.
- 6
Position a rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler.
- 7
Stir 2 cups cheese into the macaroni mixture. Sprinkle the remaining cheese evenly over the top of the skillet. Broil until the cheese is golden, about 3 minutes. Serve immediately.
