Air Fryer French Fries

Air Fryer French Fries deliver a shatteringly crisp exterior with tender, fluffy insides, thanks to a brief cold soak followed by a hot water bath that pulls off excess starch. Lightly seasoned and kissed with cayenne, they cook up with minimal oil for a fresh-from-the-fryer taste. Ideal as a weeknight side or game-day snack when you want classic fry texture without deep frying.

Air Fryer French Fries
  1. 1

    Gather all ingredients.

  2. 2

Cut each potato lengthwise into 3/8-inch-thick slices; then cut the slices into 3/8-inch-wide sticks. Place the potato sticks in a bowl of cold water and soak to release excess starch, about 5 minutes. Drain.

  3. 3

Pour boiling water over the potatoes until covered by a few inches; set aside for 10 minutes. Drain the potatoes and transfer them to some paper towels. Blot off excess water from the potatoes and let them cool completely, at least 10 minutes.

  4. 4

Place the cooled potatoes in a bowl and drizzle with oil. Season with cayenne, then toss to coat.

  5. 5

Preheat an air fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) following the manufacturer's instructions.

  6. 6

Stack the potatoes in a double layer in the air fryer basket.

  7. 7

Air fry for 15 minutes. Slide the basket out and toss the fries. Continue air frying until golden brown, about 10 minutes more. Transfer the fries to a bowl, toss with salt, and serve immediately.
