Bacon Cabbage Steaks

Bacon Cabbage Steaks feature thick rounds of cabbage roasted until tender with crisped bacon on top and a kiss of brown sugar that caramelizes at the edges. The balance of smoky, salty bacon and lightly sweet, garlicky cabbage makes this a satisfying side for weeknight dinners or a standout addition to a casual weekend spread.

Bacon Cabbage Steaks
  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. 2

Remove the outer leaf from the cabbage. Slice the cabbage into 1-inch-thick steaks and arrange them on the baking sheet. Rub smashed garlic on both sides of the cabbage steaks. Use a pastry brush to spread olive oil evenly on both sides. Season each side with salt and pepper.

  3. 3

Roast on the middle rack of the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

  4. 4

Carefully flip the cabbage steaks and lay 1 to 2 bacon slices on each steak. Sprinkle brown sugar on top. Roast until the cabbage is tender and the bacon is crisp, about 30 minutes more.
