Slow-Simmered Habanero Turkey Chili

Slow-Simmered Habanero Turkey Chili brings gentle smokiness and bold heat from a chopped dried habanero balanced by sweet corn, tomato sauce, and a trio of beans. Lean ground turkey keeps it hearty yet light, with basil and sage adding an herby finish. Serve this comforting bowl for weeknight dinners or game day, topped with Cheddar, scallions, or a side of cornbread.

  1. 1

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook until it is no longer pink and evenly browned, about 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the turkey to a slow cooker; drain any oil from the skillet.

  2. 2

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bell pepper and the garlic, and cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Stir this into the turkey.

  3. 3

Stir the kidney beans, black beans, tomato sauce, black-eyed peas, and habanero into the turkey mixture. Cover the slow cooker. Cook on High for 2 hours or on Low for 6 hours.

  4. 4

Stir in the corn, brown sugar, basil, Worcestershire sauce, and sage; cook 1 hour more. Season with salt.
