Bread Machine Kolaches

Bread Machine Kolaches feature an ultra-soft, enriched dough with a tender crumb and a lightly buttery finish. Each pastry cradles a sweet burst of cherry or classic poppyseed filling, making them perfect for brunch spreads, holiday mornings, or an afternoon coffee break. The balance of rich dough and bright, jammy centers makes this treat especially memorable.

  1. 1

Place the water, softened butter, egg, egg yolk, milk powder, potato flakes, sugar, salt, flour, and yeast into the bread machine pan in the order your manufacturer recommends. Select the Dough cycle and press Start. After 5 minutes of mixing, check the dough and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water if needed.

  2. 2

When the cycle finishes, scoop the dough with a tablespoon and roll it into walnut-sized balls. Arrange them 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

  3. 3

Gently flatten the balls with the palm of your hand and press a depression in the center with your thumb. Fill each with 1 tablespoon of filling. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  4. 4

Bake in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes, until lightly browned. Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter. Cool on a wire rack.
