Traditional Gyros

Traditional Gyros bring together a richly seasoned blend of lamb and beef, baked into a tender loaf that’s sliced thin for juicy, savory bites. Tucked into warm pitas with hummus, crisp lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, tangy feta, and cool tzatziki, it balances herbal aromatics with fresh, creamy toppings—perfect for a satisfying lunch or casual dinner.

  1. 1

Add the onion to a food processor and chop it finely. Transfer the onion to a piece of cheesecloth and squeeze out the liquid. Move the onion to a large bowl.

  2. 2

Using your hands, combine the lamb, beef, garlic, oregano, cumin, marjoram, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, and salt with the onion until well mixed. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the flavors blend, about 2 hours.

  3. 3

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

  4. 4

Transfer the meat mixture to a food processor and pulse until finely chopped and sticky, about 1 minute. Press the meat mixture into a 7x4-inch loaf pan, making sure there are no air pockets. Set the loaf pan in a roasting pan and pour in enough boiling water to come halfway up the sides of the loaf pan to create a water bath.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven until the center is no longer pink, 45 to 60 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should register at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Drain off any accumulated fat and let it cool slightly.

  6. 6

Slice the cooked gyro meat loaf thinly.

  7. 7

Spread 1 tablespoon hummus on each pita bread. Top each with some of the gyro meat slices, shredded lettuce, tomato slices, red onion slices, feta cheese crumbles, and 2 tablespoons tzatziki sauce to finish each sandwich.

How easyChef Pro Scores This Recipe

easyChef Pro gives every recipe a health score from 0 to 100, built from more than 30 nutritional parameters including nutrient density, energy density and glycemic impact. It calculates rather than estimates, so the same recipe returns the same score every time.

The number is traceable. You can see exactly which nutrient moved it, so a dish scoring 78 might show fiber pushing it up while sodium pulls it down, alongside the NOVA processing level of each ingredient.

Your health goal changes the calculation itself, not just a filter. easyChef Pro applies clinically derived weighting across six health dimensions, which is why the same dish can score well for one goal and poorly for another.

Swap an ingredient or change the serving size and that math changes with it. Scoring your own version is the only way to see what your kitchen actually produces.
